Info: Bettas naturally live in very shallow still water of south east asia. Bettas breath atmosphereic air to help them breath. Bettas are carnivores and do NOT eat plant roots!!!!!
Life Span: 2-3 years average 5-9 years by being chased around the tank daily and with frequent water changes.
Size: 2-3 inches average some giant bettas are 3-7 inches.
Housing:Pet bettas should be kept in nothing less than 1gallon of water. Good setups include Goldfish bowls and small to large tanks. If you can at all afford it buy a tank(2.5+gallons).
Feeding:Bettas are picky eaters. Food should be a very small pellet food. HBH Betta Bites are very good. Freeze Dried Bloodworms are very good to feed bettas. Feed 1-3 times a day. REMOVE UNEATEN FOOD and DONT OVERFEED!
Water:Bettas are tropical fish and require a temperature of 76-82F. DONT heat a tank smaller than 2 gallons. Bettas do best at a pH of 6.8-7.4. Tap water should be used with water conditioner.100% water changes for tanks less than 2 gallons once (1/2 gallon- 1 gallon)a week, 1/4 gallon every 3 days. Filters should be used in tanks 2+gallons.
Charecteristics:Male bettas are very aggresive to both other males and female bettas and gouramis. NEVER house them other bettas or gouramis. Female bettas can be housed together in a tank(10+gallons) with a lot of hiding places and only if they have been acclimated to other fish. When housing females together AVOID crowntail females. Males can be housed with peaceful community. Remember each betta has his own personality and may not accept tankmates.
Common Diseases:Bacterial infections, inflamed gills both can be treated with BettaFix and clean water, mainly keeping your fish in clean water and he or she wont get a disease.
